Garden Trips 2018

This   year   we   start   in   March,   earlier   than   usual,   visiting   a   delightful   garden famous   for   its   amazing   collection   of   Hellebores,   organised   by   Angela Armstrong. The   rest   of   the   team,      Heather   Hayter,   Gill   Sadler,   Jan   Morgan,   Sally Outram      and   Annette   Wood   have   all   worked   hard   planning      a   wonderful day out for you all at cost price. Do support them.

HOW TO BOOK  1. Phone or email the tour organiser to check availability. 2. Make your cheque payable to EHS.  Send / deliver to the Trip Organiser within a week of booking your place. 3. If you are not on email please enclose a SAE approx. 21cms by 8 cms. for the ITINERARY FOR THE DAY . This will be sent out 2 weeks beforehand.  (Emailers . Make a note in your diaries to keep an eye out for it )

Owned   and   managed   by   Waitrose,   the   Longstock   Park   Water   Garden   travels   freely   for   seven   acres.   The River   Test   flows   for   two   and   a   half   acres,   situating   the   water   garden   in   the   Longstock   area   of   The   Estate. Summer   is   the   time   to   enjoy   every   aspect   of   Longstock   Park   Water   Garden   and   witness   the   forty   types   of Water lilies in full blossom. Longstock Water Garden - 4 th  July 2018
Casters   Brook,   Midhurst    –   In   the   morning   we   visit   Jean   and   Philip   Jackson’s   large,   informal   garden with   huge   pond   (and   one   duck)   and   see   some   of   the   internationally   renowned   artist   Philip   Jackson’s   sculptures in a garden setting. In    the    afternoon,    after    a    stop    for    lunch,    we    will    visit    Dean   House,   Kilmeston .     This    garden    was described   to   me   as   ‘the   jewel   in   the   NGS   crown’   by   the   NGS   organiser   for   our   county.   The   7   acres   have also   been   described   as   ‘a   well-kept   secret   hidden   behind   the   elegant   façade   of   its   Georgian   centrepiece’. Sweeping   lawns,   York   stone   paths,   gravel   pathways,   many   mature   trees   and   herbaceous   borders.   Rose garden,   pond   garden,   working   walled   garden   with   glasshouses,   60   metre   laburnum   and   wisteria   tunnel. We   will   be   met   and   guided   to   the   Orangery   for   a   talk,   slideshow   and   introduction   to   the   garden.   With   maps provided,   we   make   a   self-guided   tour   at   our   leisure,   after   which   time   we   return   to   the   Orangery   for   a ‘sumptuous’ tea where the gardeners will be present to answer any questions we may have. A Visit to 2 vey Special Gardens – July 18 th  2018 - £32
EHS visit to Pembury House and Nymans - Tuesday 6th March 2018  We shall leave Emsworth  at 9am for our private visit to our first garden at Pembury House, near Hassocks. There we shall be welcomed by the owners, Nick and Jane Baker, who will serve us tea/coffee and cake before showing us around their lovely Spring garden which is particularly noted for its beautiful Hellebores.  From there we shall continue to the National Trust (N.T.) property, Nymans, at Handscross. Apart from the famous English Gardens with a winter walk, the House is also open to the public. There will be an opportunity to buy a wide range of refreshments, enjoy the second-hand bookshop, plant centre and shop. As it is still early in the year we shall leave at about 4pm for our return drive to Emsworth.  The overall cost will be: For non-members of the N.T:  [£23.50 plus reduced NT entry (£11.50)] = £35.00 total,  For N.T. members: £23.50 total £23.50 should be paid to the EHS, and non-members of the N.T should pay the £11.50 on arrival at Nymans.  N.T. members please remember to bring your N.T. card with you on the trip.
